Faircap Mini Filter Was Ready

October 10, 2023

In April, we obtained the initial 50 Faircap Mini Filter batch of series production. 3 were dispatched to Bachema AG in Switzerland to conduct the necessary tests using water contaminated with E. coli, and the outcomes were encouraging.

By July, the first DIP grant finished with promising results. The team managed to develop a fully functional filter. The filter was tested it in lab conditions by two independent labs (University of Barcelona Viruses Contaminants of water and food Lab – Following a protocol based on WHO’s International Scheme to Evaluate Household Water Treatment Technologies, and also from the Technical University of Berlin). In preparation for the field testing, they also developed a portable and low-cost kit to test any water source for E. coli in remote locations.

Faircap´s Mini Final Design

October 10, 2023

In July, the team made significant progress in finalizing the initial design of the Faircap Mini filter model.

By September, we conducted laboratory tests on the first Faircap Mini filters, demonstrating that the membranes were capable of retaining particles larger than 0.2 microns in size (notably, bacteria like E. coli are larger than 0.5 microns). Also, we developed and enhanced this version by simplifying the design and reducing the number of moving components, resulting in a more cost-effective molding and manufacturing process.

POC21 Camp

October 10, 2023

POC21 was a global innovation community, that started as an innovation camp. This camp assembled a diverse group of over 100 individuals, including makers, designers, engineers, scientists, and tech enthusiasts. During the late summer of 2015, these participants converged at a remarkable French castle with a shared mission: to create prototypes for a society that’s free from fossil fuels and waste.

Faircap was one of the 12 projects that emerged from this camp. Thanks to POC 21 we were able to make the idea of Faircap a reality. We realized that it was possible to create collaborative, low-cost technologies that would allow access to drinking water and promote a sustainable lifestyle.

HIF grantee

October 10, 2023

In 2016, the Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) launched the Development and Implementation Phase (DIP) call. This call was designed to solicit proposals from various humanitarian organizations and projects that aimed to develop and implement innovative solutions to address critical challenges in the humanitarian sector.

Faircap’s proposal was chosen and awarded with a £88,340 grant, which played a crucial role in enabling us to to research, design, produce, test, and implement the Faircap Project.
